With a variety of methods and approaches, Third Street's extensive piano program offers training in all musical styles for students of every age and level. Children as young as 3.5 can become part of our Suzuki piano program, which pairs individual lessons with a weekly group class. Traditional lessons are available for students ages 4 through adult and are designed to fit individual needs and learning styles.

Individual lessons provide the opportunity for concentrated work and individual attention. Individual lessons promote skills, achievement, and enthusiasm and are recommended for students who want to progress quickly in their discipline.

Weekly lessons are offered in 30, 45, and 60-minute sessions.

The benefits of individual lessons at Third Street:

  1. A chance to study with some of the finest NYC music faculty
  2. Significant discounts to Third Street ensembles, bands, orchestras and enrichment classes such as music theory or composition
  3. Access to free piano accompanists during select performances and lessons
  4. Valuable performance opportunities
  5. Music lessons can help children develop valuable creative thinking skills. By learning how to play an instrument, children learn how to make decisions and problem-solve.
  6. Music lessons can help children learn discipline. Playing an instrument takes practice and dedication, and these skills can help them in other areas of their life.
  7. Music lessons can help children build self-confidence and learn to express themselves and develop a sense of accomplishment.
  8. It’s fun and a great way to make friends, be a part of a community, and explore new interests

Suzuki Method for students age 3.5 - 5:

Recommended for beginning string, flute, and piano students ages 3.5 and up. Developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, the Suzuki approach is based on how children learn their native language - exposure, action, and repetition. Pieces are learned by ear and played from memory, and lessons are paired with a weekly repertoire class that immerses students with others at their age and skill level. Parental involvement and group learning are core components of this approach and note reading are taught at the appropriate time. Piano is offered using the Suzuki method.
