Three in Four Third Street Students Receive Aid at Third Street!
Music and dance education can be life-changing for children and adults alike. The benefits of a strong arts education are endless, but it’s no secret that paying for music and dance lessons in New York City can be expensive for many families. But at Third Street, finances are never a barrier between a student and a quality music education, said Loyi Malu, the director of student services and community engagement. Anyone who feels like they need financial assistance is encouraged to apply.
Here are three ways Third Street makes its arts education more accessible:
NEED-BASED AID - Families or individuals who cannot afford tuition are encouraged to apply for need-based aid. Each application, which is available online, is reviewed and Student Services notifies the family or individual of their award. Applications are valid for two years.
SUBSIDIES - Third Street offers deeply subsidized rates for classes. Students enrolled for a lesson can add on more classes for a lower price instead of paying for the full cost of each.
SCHOLARSHIPS - Third Street offers merit-based scholarships that award students with financial aid. Students can apply through the school’s annual auditions.
AT THIRD STREET, SUPPORT IS FOR EVERYONE.

Placement Process
PLACEMENT
Caregivers of new students aged 6 and under or all students with previous experience are invited to schedule a placement appointment with a Department Chairperson to discuss instructors and courses of study.
New students over the age of 6 and without previous experience are welcome to enroll without a placement appointment. Student Services will identify an appropriate instructor based on availability and area of interest.
Returning students should consult with their current instructor to set a lesson length and time for the new academic year.
Students interested in group instruction will be placed by Student Services or their Department Chairperson into the appropriate class according to age, availability, and skill level.
