ISO at Third Street Symphony

NYC's largest youth orchestra program, at ISO at Third Street every young musician will find the right place for themselves to create beautiful music with their peers.

Placement Auditions

All new students wishing to join the Symphony or current Third Street Orchestra students interested in trying out for the next orchestra must submit a video audition for placement. 


Returning students staying in their current orchestra for 2024-25 do not need to re-audition.

Barry Stern

Conductor

Barry Stern is in his fifth season as conductor of ISO at Third Street Symphony Orchestra, after having served as conductor of the Concert Orchestra for one season. He is also an alumnus of the Symphony, having been in the orchestra from 1985 – 1987 under the tutelage of Music Director Emeritus, Jonathan Strasser.


As a violist, Barry has collaborated and performed with artists such as Quincy Jones, Wu Tang Clan, Mark Wood, Tevin Campbell, and Sarah Brightman. In addition to serving as an adjunct professor of music education at Brooklyn College, Barry is a co-author of the New York City Department of Education’s Commencement Music Examination, was a lead facilitator for professional development for New York City music teachers, and served on the committee that edited the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.
